Academia:
Blake’s path has been far from easy. Academics did not always come naturally, and there were moments of doubt, pressure, and uncertainty that could have caused him to step back. But instead, Blake chose to push forward. Through long nights, setbacks, and challenges, he developed a mindset rooted in growth and an unwavering commitment to keep going, no matter how difficult the journey became.
Minority:
As a minority navigating personal struggles, including challenges surrounding LGBTQ+ identity, Blake faced moments where he had to find strength within himself to stand confidently in who he is. Those experiences, while difficult, became a source of purpose—shaping his character, deepening his empathy, and fueling his drive to succeed not only for himself, but to prove that he belongs in every space he steps into. As a minority in accounting, Blake brings not only technical skills, but a unique perspective shaped by resilience, adaptability, and lived experience—allowing Blake to contribute meaningfully, think critically, and help create a more inclusive and forward-thinking profession.
Leadership & Involvement:
Throughout it all, Blake has continued to give back and lead. He served as Student Government President during his time in community college and volunteered with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen during the holidays—understanding the importance of supporting others even while facing his own challenges.
Experience:
For nearly eight years, Blake has worked in the hospitality industry as a bartender, server, and manager, often balancing long hours with academic responsibilities. Blake has taken on every role possible, learning to adapt, lead, and persevere under pressure. These experiences taught Blake discipline, accountability, and the value of showing up—even when it’s hard.
Impact:
Putting Blake through school entirely on his own, Blake has made countless sacrifices to pursue his education and future. Blake’s journey is not defined by ease, but by effort. Not by privilege, but by persistence. Every step forward represents his refusal to give up, his belief in growth, and his commitment to building a life he can be proud of.
